The mixture of 70% weasel hair on the inside and 30% goat hair on the outside provides a sturdy brush that also provides great absorbency to hold a great amount of ink to work for long stretches.
Part of the hard hair brush family, the weasel hair provides the sturdiness while the soft Goat Hair compliments it with maximum absorbency. There is often confusion between weasel hair and wolf hair, and this stems from the fact that both types of hair share the same character, Lang Hao in Chinese. Though this brush is made with weasel hair, it is indicated as Wolf Hair on the website to indicate exceptional quality, whereas basic weasel hair quality will be indicated in The Chinese Calligraphist web shop as just weasel hair.
Both the goat and weasel hair from this brush were produced in Northeast China in the Yangtze River Delta, long known for generating the best of both types of hair.
On the intricately carved wooden handle are the characters Bi Zhu Ren Yi, which translates into the Divine Inspiration.
