Despite its name, the Basic Element Wolf Hair Brush is made of weasel hair. The reason for the discrepancy is that the Chinese characters Lang Hao can mean either wolf or weasel hair, so many brushes made of weasel hair are labeled wolf hair. And though wolf hair brushes do exist, they are rare and expensive. At The Chinese Calligraphist, we use the term wolf hair to denote high quality weasel hair, and use weasel hair to label more basic weasel hair brushes.

So, since this brush is called wolf hair, it is made of the finest weasel hair, which makes for a stiff and resilient tip. Thusly, the brush great for both Sumi-e and fineline painting. In addition, this versatile brush is also excellent for calligraphy, particularly Cao Shu and Xing Shu scripts, which necessitate a fast writing speed and require a stiff and resilient brush.

Printed onto the wooden handle is Te Zhi Lang Hao, the name of the brush in Chinese.
