TANG MO - Oriental Chinese Brush Painting Ink Stick - Warm Glossy Black

Traditional high-quality oil soot ink stock serving calligraphy and Asian brush painting purposes alike. Used by experts for intricate artworks.

This stick is made of oil soot which is the soot produced from animal oil. It is produced in Anhui, which is famous for its production of calligraphy related products, though this stick is effectively used for Sumi-e painting as well. It creates a unique effect for both art forms because it does not stick to the brush when dipping the ink. Compared to other ink sticks, this stick is very easy to grind and paint with which makes it a favorite to many Chinese brush artists.

Carved into one side of the Tang Mo ink stick is golden bamboo. Bamboo, which is one of the Four Gentlemen in Chinese culture, represents elegance and indomitable character, which is fitting since the ink this stick produces is a warm and glossy black.

Ink sticks have been used for centuries as an ink source for Chinese artists, and continue to be used widely today even with the availability of liquid ink. Artists like the fact that you can control the consistency of the ink by how much water you add to the powder produced after you grind the stick on an ink slab.
