Since ancient times, mountains have been significant in Chinese culture and art. Legend has it that the mountains are manifestations of the energy of nature. Therefore, the mountains themselves contain energy and are able to attract clouds that will water the crops, one of the most important feats of the then all agricultural society. They contain medicinal herbs and fruits, as well precious minerals.

So, it goes without saying that the Mountains Porcelain Brush Rest is no regular brush rest, but a majestic symbol that can be used to inspire the artist as he or she works. Additionally, the brush rest has a natural beauty since is made of porcelain. This is contrasted by the designs on the front of the brush rest in blue, which is an important color in China representing immortality.

All of this, of course, is in addition to the brush rest being an extremely functional and useful tool in any artist's studio. Available in small, medium and large, the brush rest can hold up to two brushes at once.

The Mountains Porcelain Brush Rest brings to mind a famous Chinese story about mountains. The story is called Gong Yi Shan, which means "the foolish old man who removed the mountains."

It is said that long ago, there were two giant mountains in front of an old man's house that blocked him from coming or going, so the man decided he would tear them down. The man's neighbor told him he was foolish because he was old and weak and would never be able to move the mountains. The old man replied that he had sons and they had sons, and he would have an endless line of descendants who could continuously work to level the mountains, while the mountains would never grow higher. The fiercely determined spirit of the old man moved the immortals to send down other immortals to move the mountains away.

This saying implies that we should remain perseverant, diligent and fearless in the face of difficulty. The Mountains Porcelain Brush Rest is a great way to remind you to persevere while you are working at your art, even during difficult times.
