Ten Tricks in Chinese Painting is a series of books that teaches the essential techniques of Sumi-e. Each book focuses on a different subject, all of which are common in Chinese art and will serve as a good basis for anyone interested in learning to how to make exquisite Chinese brush paintings.
Divided into four sections, Ten Tricks in Chinese Painting – People will cover the basic knowledge required for painting people. The first section serves as a General Introduction to brush paintings of people. Basic Methods of Painting People will cover the basics of the different approaches that can be used for this complex subject. The third section, Paintings of Different Kinds of People will expand upon the second section to cover the different types of people you will want to include depending on the type of painting you are doing. Finally, the last section will tie everything together by presenting Examples People Paintings. These can be used to learn how to put the skills learned in the previous sections to use with correct structure and color combinations. It can also be used again and again for study and inspiration.
While there are not necessarily ten tricks in each book, the most important techniques of brush painting for each subject will be explored indepth. Additionally, all the information is presented in a very colorful and easy to use manner, making the books enjoyable as well as informative. While great for beginners, the books also will serve to help more advanced artists refine their current painting knowledge.
