LANDSCAPE SPECIALIST DOUBLE - Semi-Sized DOUBLE Shuen Paper

The “big brother” of our Single Shuen Landscape Specialist this paper is stronger and more durable than its little brother but it is also very suitable for landscape paintings and part of our Dancing Grace Series. It is semi-processed state with two sheets making it a high quality paper for Chinese and Japanese Calligraphy and Fineline Gongbi Painting at the same time.

Please note that the writing effect on the paper is not only affected by the material and quality of the paper but also the density of the ink which means that the reference picture could be not showing 100% of the real effect. The Landscape Specialist is great for landscapes because it is a two-sheet thick piece of Xuan Paper, often known as Double Xuan.

After going through the normal process of Xuan paper, another step is added when the chemical substance alum (Ming Fan) is applied to the surface of the paper. This compound inhibits water from being absorbed by the paper, and when it is applied the paper becomes known as semi-processed. The Landscape Specialist has undergone this process making it perfect for landscapes.

The amount of water that can still be absorbed by the paper depends upon how much alum is applied. The Landscape Specialist has an intermediate absorbency, which also makes it great for Fineline (Gongbi) painting and East Asian Calligraphy, particularly if you are using Kai Shu, Zhuan Shu and Li Shu scripts.
